DAY 6 - 2ND DAY NORTH

DAY 6 -- 2ND DAY NORTH
Since we were up until 11:45 last night doing laundry, we slept in until 8:45.  This was cause for panic because breakfast stops at 10am, which, when translated from the Norweegic, means they start clearing the yummiest things at 9:45.
First thing in the morning, we stopped an Alesund, billed as Norway’s most beautiful city, but by the time we were fully vertical and sufficiently nice smelling, we had sailed away.  Which brings me back to our ship, Richard With, being a working ship.  We stop at little ports all day and night, usually for 15 minutes.  We can get off, as long as we are back on board 10 minutes before departure.  They have a schedule to meet (or incur fines), AND DEY VILL LEAF AN TIM.  We were warned that taxis were expensive.  Of course, some stops include excursions and they are as long as 3½ hours.
From Alesund, we headed into the Hjørundfjord (fiord) with Urke as our goal.  Urke is the only stop where a ferry boat is used to get us ashore; all other ports employ a gang plank, allowing a gang of us to rampage ashore.  Here can be seen the Richard With with ferry boat

As we amble up the only ambleable road,

and we are guided to “Downtown” Urke by modern signage.

We pass the local Troll's house.

The home of a local, I assume, republican unconcerned about sea level rise.

We finally approach Downtown.

We heard from the local Welcoming Person that there were 32 inhabitants of Urke, but 2 were on vacation, so…  in the spirit of total transparency, 30 right now.  This is where they all get their mail.

We met the Mayor, who spoke no English at all and was surprisingly stand-offish.

Rumors that the boat was sneaking off without us proved to be unfounded.

After leaving Urke, the ship stopped again in Alesund, and we hopped out to take a wee walk-about
This (small) portion of the city is Venice-like.

We both sat down on the corner as even Francie was feel'in the burn after this long day.

We did make it back home before home sailed away without us.
